John Wilkinson, Counterfeit Copper Halfpenny, c1794 (D&H Warwickshire 474) Obv: A bust in profile to right. Around the perimeter IOHN WILKISON IRON MASTER. Name misspelt WILKISON. Plain coat, with collar, three buttons on coat. Upper tie of queue points to the I of IOHN. Period after R, the period in line with the inside of the legend. Small letters in legend. Nose to MA; Rev: A female seated with right hand upon a screw and left hand upon a cogwheel. HALFPENNY above, 1794 below.  The cogwheel has eight spokes and one of the spokes comes between the fingers; Edge: Plain  (Conder p.242, 274; Atkins p. 238, 328; D&H Warwickshire 474)

Struck on a small, lightweight planchet, per usual. An exceptionally strong strike, quite scarce thus. gEF
