Description

Thomas Prattent, Copper Halfpenny, 1796, obv An anchor and cable within a shield, between sprigs of laurel. A liberty cap, radiated, above. Around the perimeter LONDON COMMERCIAL TOKEN 1796, rev The arms of London within an ornamental border, edge plain  (Conder p.94, 200; Virt p.167; Atkins p. 109, 341; D&H Middlesex 459)

Reverse planchet flaw, otherwise gem uncirculated and attractively toned. Scarce.

Thomas Prattent, artist, engraver, coin dealer, and along with Matthew Denton, co-author of the Virtuoso's Companion and Coin Collector's Guide. His place of business was 46, Cloth Fair, West Smithfield.
