Pretor, Pew, & Whitty, Simon Pretor (1727-1804), grocer, tea dealer, and founder of a bank in Sherborne; Richard Pew (1752-1834), surgeon; Samuel Whitty (1760-1833), postmaster. Pew and Whitty were both sons-in-law of Simon Pretor and partners in the bank, Samuel Whitty becoming the bank manager.
