Charles Roe & Company, Copper Halfpenny, 1789, obv a beehive and bees, and cypher R & Co. MACCLESFIELD above The far right hand bee comes to the center of E of MACCLESFIELD. The period after MACCLESFIELD close to D, rev a female seated with right hand upon a screw and left hand upon a cogwheel. HALFPENNY above, 1789 below. The cogwheel has six spokes, edge PAYABLE AT MACCLESFIELD LIVERPOOL OR CONGLETON (Conder p.22, 5; Pye p.36, 1; Atkins p. 11, 7; D&H Cheshire 9)
Listed by Dalton & Hamer as a unique trial strike. It may be a trial, however it is not unique. There are, perhaps, 3 traced to-date. Toned, good extremely fine, and exceptionally rare.
